My Style & Approach

Using a client-centred approach to therapy, I believe that all people have the power to achieve the meaningful and enduring change they desire. I am focused on being compassionate, respectful, honest, and empathetic as I join with clients to create a safe and supportive atmosphere where we can work towards their goals. I see my role of therapist not as an aloof or passive expert, but an active participant in the therapeutic process, authentically engaging with my clients in order to assist the process of healing. While incorporating techniques from many therapeutic modalities including mindfulness-based, cognitive, behavioural, solution-focused and narrative, I remain focused on my clients strengths and their capacity to connect with their own values in order to live meaningful and authentic lives.

Education, Training, & Professional Development

I received my Master’s of Arts in Theology: Spiritual Care and Psychotherapy through Wilfrid Laurier University, which included an eight month psychotherapy practicum placement at Chimo Youth and Family Services in Lindsay, ON. At Chimo, I had the privilege of assessing and providing both brief and long-term psychotherapy to youth and their families, joining with them as they faced life challenges. I completed a post-graduate internship at New Roots Therapy in August 2019, and have since stayed on as a member of the counselling team.

My course work has made me familiar and comfortable with a variety of therapeutic modalities including: cognitive behavioural therapy, family therapies, spiritually-integrated psychotherapy, mindfulness-based therapies, and meaning-centred psychotherapy. I am always expanding my knowledge and skills through courses and workshops, and have more recently completed trainings in emotion-focused therapy and sex therapy.

In addition to my educational and clinical training, I have gained a valuable perspective through my considerable life experience, having already had a career as a classical actor in both Canada and the US, as well as having accumulated the breadth of knowledge and understanding that comes with being in a marriage of almost twenty years and parenting my own children who are now entering early adolescence. Life with my own family has, in large part, evoked my desire to aid others in creating and sustaining healthy relationships and assisted in my ability to empathize with, connect to and create trusting relationships with clients.

Personal interests

These days my personal time is taken up with a lot of my kids’ activities, driving them to lessons and volunteering at the organizations and schools they attend. We are definitely an arts-focused family, enjoying the theatre and art galleries whenever we can. I also love hiking with my husband and our dog and always find time to end my day with reading some good fiction.
