Family Therapy

FOR YOUTH (13+) AND ADULTS

Family therapy is a space where challenges are viewed relationally and contextually, rather than individually. This means that the difficulties one family member is experiencing are seen as a response to the dynamics of the entire family system. The work of a family therapist is first to understand these patterns of interaction between family members, in order to understand how growth can occur within individual members and the system as a whole.

There are many reasons why people choose family therapy services, including:

  • Conflict and communication difficulties (parent-child, sibling, chosen family)

  • Relationship transitions, including separation, divorce, integrating blended families, and “growing apart”

  • Impact of mental health and/or substance misuse on family relationships

  • 2SLGBTQIA+ family experiences

  • Boundary challenges, including intergenerational boundaries and boundaries with extended family

  • Navigating developmental milestones

  • Loss and bereavement support
