My Style & Approach
Finding a therapist who understands the complexities of life can make all the difference, and I'm genuinely glad you're here. I believe our emotional experiences, behaviours, and identities are deeply intertwined with our unique life experiences, the contexts we navigate, and the relationships we hold. Therapy should be a safe and supportive space to explore these connections and how they shape who we are.
I strive to create a warm and inviting environment where you feel truly heard and understood, recognizing that your story is unique and valuable. Together, we can reflect on your past experiences and how they continue to influence your present life. My person-centred approach focuses on helping you recognize and understand your emotions in a non-judgmental space, allowing for personal growth and self-awareness.
In addition to person-centred therapy, I incorporate modalities such as emotion-focused therapy, narrative therapy, and solution-focused therapy. These approaches allow me to tailor my methods to best suit your individual needs and explore the intricate ways your experiences, context, and relationships have shaped your emotional landscape.
Education, Training, & Professional Development
I am currently completing my practicum as a student at Yorkville University in the Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology program. I hold a postgraduate certificate in Mental Health and Addiction from Durham College. Before this, I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology degree from Trent University, Durham. In my previous employment, I worked as an addiction counsellor at a private facility and, most recently, as a case manager for individuals struggling with addiction and mental health issues. I look forward to applying my skills in the field of psychotherapy and am thrilled to be a part of the New Roots Therapy team.
Personal interests
In my free time, I enjoy spending moments with friends and family. I find joy in visiting local coffee shops and savouring a hot oat latte. Self-care is very important to me, and I practice it through daily walks, good workouts at the gym, or something as simple as taking a hot bath to unwind. I also love spending time in the kitchen, cooking delicious yet nutritious meals, as I believe that fueling my body positively impacts many areas of my life. Recently, I have started learning the art of Pilates, although if you know Pilates, it is still a work in progress.
