Education, Training, & Professional Development

While receiving my bachelor’s degree in Peterborough, I had the opportunity to volunteer at the Kawartha Sexual Assault Centre, the Alzheimer’s Society, and Array (which offers support services to deaf and hard of hearing individuals who have developmental disabilities). My training and volunteer work at these organizations was an important part of my development as a trauma-informed, compassionate, and genuine counsellor. These volunteer positions allowed me to see first-hand how empathy and active listening can be combined to connect with people from different populations and influence positive change. Trauma-informed care is something I have brought to my practice as a counsellor, as well as the genuine intention to help others by listening, offering encouragement and accepting people for who they are.

I am a graduate of the Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology program at Yorkville University.

My Style & Approach

My approach to therapy is to provide the empathy and non-judgmental support that people need to share their experiences and work through the challenges they are facing. I pull from various modern approaches to therapy including but not limited to Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Narrative Therapy and Solution-Focused Therapy. My intention with each client is to work with them to find a therapeutic path that will best suit their needs and preferences. If we work together, the goal of therapy will not be to “fix” or “change” you, but to support you as you grow and help guide you to see a more expansive view of yourself, your life, and your relationships. I aim to assist you as you gain the knowledge and tools to make positive changes when it is possible, and to find acceptance when it is not.

By following a client-centred approach, I accept that you, as the client, are the expert on your own life and mind. My role as the counsellor is to help you deconstruct what you are feeling, what you have gone through and what is happening now in order to work towards your goals. I encourage healing thoughts, productive communication, and constructive actions that bring about positive changes in your well-being. I am comfortable offering support with many different challenges that you may be facing, such as stress, grief, anxiety, depression, concerns with relationships, and issues with self-esteem.

Personal Activities

I have always been drawn to helping others as well as interested in how our thoughts, behaviours, and emotions influence one another. I am excited to merge theses two passions as a practicing counsellor. Aside from my work as a counsellor, I am also passionate about creating music, being mindful in nature, spending time with those close to me, and pushing myself to try new things.

I bring my interest into my practice with clients. I encourage my clients to strengthen their connections to those who are close to them, do what they love, try new experiences, love and respect the needs of their bodies, and find peace and contentment in nature.
