Education, Training, & Professional Development

I have worked in the field of social services and counselling for over 5 years. I have an Honours Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Toronto at Scarborough in Psychology and Integrative Biology. I also hold an Honours Social Services Worker diploma from Durham College, which has allowed me to register with the College of Social Workers and Social Services Worker as a Psychotherapist and Counsellor. I am currently in the process of completing my Masters of Arts in Counselling Psychology at Yorkville University. In an effort to further my knowledge, skills and experience in psychotherapy and counselling, I have entered into the practical training portion of my MA program as a Master’s Level Training Counsellor at New Roots Therapy.

I have worked with a wide array of diverse individuals mainly in the areas of trauma, abuse/violence, anxiety, depression, and PTSD. I have training in trauma-focused approaches, crisis intervention, mindfulness-based interventions, emotion-focused therapies, neurobiology and attachment-based models, among other models and approaches.

My Style & Approach

I believe in working collaboratively with individuals, families, and those in relationships, as a way to support them in achieving the goals that they set out for themselves. I practice in a very holistic, empathetic, and non-judgmental way that provides an open and supportive space for individuals to share their inner worlds. I believe that it is important to have transparency and honesty within therapy in order to truly address the issues that are presented, and work towards healing. I’m also mindful of being multi-culturally sensitive and building upon one’s strengths in order to find healthy coping mechanisms, reduce stress, and better understand the self, including one’s thoughts feelings, and actions. Together, we can work towards positive growth and change on your life’s journey.

Personal Activities

My husband and I welcomed our first child in 2018. Being a new mom has kept me very busy, and I truly love getting to know our son; watching him grow, as well as learning new things about myself. When I get the chance, I enjoy engaging in yoga, meditation, and going for walks. I also enjoy reading (mainly fiction), as well as watching my favourite TV shows, and the occasional movie. My husband and I love trying new foods and cooking, in addition to travelling. I like to try new things and within the last few years I’ve been horseback riding in the ocean, ATV-ing through the Jamaican countryside, and zip-lining in the Rainforest. I’m always up for a new adventure!
